Japanese WAFU Brunch in Zurich

In addition to our everyday Japanese dishes, we also serve brunch with a Japanese twist every weekend: from creamy Tamago Egg Sandos to heartwarming rice soup and delicate matcha cream croissants. Of course, we also offer delicious matcha drinks to go with them.

Brunch with a Japanese Twist

Our Wafu Brunch combines Japanese tradition with Western brunch culture.

“Wafu” (和風) means “Japanese style.” It describes a way of cooking that has been practiced in Japan for centuries: influences from around the world are combined with Japanese techniques, ingredients, and great care—resulting in something new with a character all its own.

Every Saturday and Sunday

Brunch is served every weekend from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. exclusively at the MARU location at Rolandstrasse 9—as a complement to our existing menu. We recommend making a table reservation, but walk-ins are always welcome.

  • Wafu (和風) means “Japanese style”—a culinary approach that combines Japanese ingredients, techniques, and flavors with Western forms.

    At MARU, this means an à la carte brunch menu featuring dishes such as Tamago Egg Sando, Karaage Waffles, Matcha Cream Croissants, Dashi Chazuke, Matcha Granola Yogurt, Avocado Shokupan Toast, and more. The matcha is freshly prepared using a chasen (matcha whisk) and a chawan (matcha bowl) at our matcha bar.

  • The Wafu Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday, exclusively at the Rolandstrasse 9 location in Zurich. It complements MARU's regular menu and can be ordered à la carte.

  • Yes—it's a good idea to make a reservation, especially on Sundays and for groups.

  • Yes. Several items on the brunch menu are vegetarian—including the Matcha Cream Croissant, Avocado Shokupan Toast, various waffles, and much more. The staff on site will be happy to help you choose and answer any questions you may have about allergens.

    Unfortunately, our only vegan options right now are the Karaage Brunch Bowl with fried cauliflower and tofu, and the Dashi Chazuke (Japanese rice soup) with tofu inari.

  • Shokupan (食パン) is Japanese milk bread—perfected over decades in bakeries in Tokyo and Osaka. It has an exceptionally tender crumb, a slightly sweet flavor, and a texture that remains crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside when toasted.

    At MARU, shokupan serves as the base for the Tamago Egg Sando and the avocado toast.
