We missed Japan. So we brought it to Zurich.

MARU brings a piece of authentic Japan to Zurich.

We prepare Japanese comfort food using regional recipes, with precision and genuine care. We prioritize a quick and hassle-free experience, but never at the expense of quality and freshness. Because for us, fast and careful go hand in hand.

This philosophy has its roots in Maya. She is the heart and soul of MARU. All the recipes, every idea, and the high standards we set for everything we do come from her. Raised in Japan and now at home in Switzerland, she missed the shokudo—Japan’s small, unpretentious everyday restaurants, where down-to-earth, delicious food has been cooked with genuine pride for generations. With MARU, she now invites everyone to join her on a brief trip to Japan.

We’re also passionate about matcha. We insist on ceremonial-grade quality and meticulous preparation by hand. Matcha is an essential part of our identity and embodies the same philosophy as everything we do: done right, without cutting corners.

We want everyone who comes to us to feel right at home. We treat every guest as if they were visiting our own home, and we love sharing our enthusiasm and knowledge of Japanese food and tea culture with everyone who visits us.
