Japanese Tea Ceremony

In this tea ceremony, Rie, a tea master at the Omotesenke Tea School, invites you to experience the Japanese Way of Tea in its original form. Through calm, precise movements and deep mindfulness, a space of silence is created where tea is more than just a beverage. You’ll learn about the background of the Omotesenke tradition and the significance of the individual gestures and utensils. The ceremony offers you a moment of slow-paced concentration, clarity, and inner peace.

Information about Tea Master Rie:

Rie was first introduced to the tea ceremony by her grandmother—a master of the tea ceremony and ikebana at the Omotesenke School of Tea in Osaka—when she was still in kindergarten. From an early age, she was fascinated by the tranquility and purity of the tea house. As she grew older, she came to recognize the respectful interaction and harmony between guest and host as central elements of the tea ceremony. In 1989, Rie received her diploma as a tea master from the Omotesenke School of Tea, and since 2008 she has been giving numerous demonstrations in Switzerland to introduce visitors to the Japanese Zen spirit.
